The appearance day of Lord Krishna, Whom the Vedic Scriptures describe as the Supreme Lord, in this material world is celebrated as Janmastami.
Some 5000 years ago, Lord Krishna appeared in mid-night on the Eighth-day of the waning moon (Ashtami tithi under Rohini Nakshatra) as the eighth son of Devaki and Vasudev in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, India.
